Brady Endorses Rep. Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) for Re-Election

Washington, D.C., February 10, 2020 - Today, Brady endorsed Rep. Alan Lowenthal (CA-47) in his campaign for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2020.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Rep. Lowenthal clearly understands the cost and urgency of the gun violence epidemic in the United States. When approximately 100 people are killed by gun violence each day in the United States, we need change. Fortunately, Rep. Lowenthal has committed to creating that change while in Congress. From advocating for the first funding for federal research of gun violence in a generation to helping to pass the bipartisan H.R.8 and H.R.1112, which would expand and strengthen federal background checks, Rep. Lowenthal has walked the walk. It’s why Brady is proud to endorse him for re-election.”

Rep. Lowenthal has been a consistent champion of gun safety policies, such as co-sponsoring H.R.8, the bipartisan bill that passed the U.S. House of Representatives over 345 days ago but has yet to receive a vote in the U.S. Senate. H.R.8, and its companion bill H.R.1112, would strengthen and expand federal background checks, helping to ensure that individuals who are a proven risk to themselves or others do not possess weapons.

Rep. Lowenthal shared:

"We’re just over six weeks into 2020, and already too many communities, including my own, have experienced the tragedy of gun violence. We can’t keep pretending like everything is normal or that this problem will magically go away. We need action and meaningful change. Last year, I was proud to help pass in the House the first meaningful gun reform in decades, but it was only a step in the right direction and our fight to end gun violence is far from over. Unfortunately, the Senate refuses to take up this gun safety legislation. I’m ready to see gun safety reforms become law. We need to send a message, loud and clear, that the power of our movement is stronger than the gun industry and their lobbyists -- and that their time controlling our gun policy has come to an end."

Brady Long Beach Chapter President Peggy McCrum stated:

“Rep. Lowenthal has been a constant advocate for gun violence prevention. He has given a voice to the people of Long Beach and Orange County who demand action and has proven that we can count on him to fight with us to end gun violence.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
