Industry Oversight

For decades, the gun industry has contributed to and profited from America’s gun violence crisis, often funneling guns into disproportionately impacted Black and Brown communities. Meanwhile, the gun industry is uniquely protected from oversight and accountability, operating in the shadows of society and rarely facing consequences. It’s time we held the gun industry accountable, just as Americans previously held Big Tobacco accountable.

By holding the gun industry accountable, we work to shift the burden of finding and funding gun violence solutions from impacted communities to the industry actors whose negligent and even unlawful practices fuel violence. As part of these efforts, our legal team takes on the gun industry in court and our Combating Crime Guns program works to identify the sources of crime guns, improve government oversight of the gun industry, and pressure irresponsible firearms businesses to change.
