Brady Responds to Shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon

While details continue to emerge, sources indicate that children are among the injured

Washington, D.C., October 15, 2026 — Today, the Bend Police Department confirmed an active shooter incident at Silver Rail Elementary School. At least two people have been transported to the hospital, and children are reported to be among those injured in the shooting. Police confirmed that the shooter is dead, but have not yet provided additional details as their investigation continues. 

Brady, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organization, released the following statement condemning this heinous act of violence and calling for urgent action.

Our hearts are with the victims, survivors, their families, and the entire community of Bend, Oregon. This morning, parents at Silver Rail Elementary School did what parents across the country do every day: send their children to school. They have the right to expect their children will come home safely at the end of the day. Yet 80% of parents nationally are concerned that their child’s school could be the site of a mass shooting, and unfortunately that fear has been once again validated.

“Only in America do we have to fear being shot and killed in our schools, places of worship, and grocery stores. It’s up to all of us to demand an end to this uniquely American public health crisis. Our leaders must put the safety of our children, families, and communities above the gun industry.
