Brady Endorses Cal Cunningham for U.S. Senate: A Common-Sense Champion for Gun Violence Prevention

Washington, D.C., December 19, 2019 - Today, Brady endorsed Cal Cunningham to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate.

Brady President Kris Brown stated:

“Cal Cunningham has a long history of dedicated public service. As an Army veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, business leader, and former legislator who served as Vice Chairman of the Governor’s Crime Commission, he understands the need to ensure that common-sense gun safety laws respect the rights of responsible gun owners and keep weapons out of the hands of those who cannot or should not have them. Cal understands the need to close loopholes that allow prohibited purchasers, such as those convicted of a violent crime, from acquiring firearms as well as the need to keep weapons of war out of North Carolina communities. As a native North Carolinian, he’ll fight for his state and its residents. We need Cal’s leadership and clarity on these issues in Washington. It’s why Brady is proud to endorse him."

Cal is an advocate for common-sense gun violence prevention policies that bipartisan majorities of Americans want. Policies such as expanding and strengthening background checks, banning the sale of high-capacity magazines, and passing Extreme Risk Laws, sometimes called ‘Red Flag laws,’ that will keep North Carolina communities safe and keep weapons out of the hands of those who have proven they are a risk to themselves or others. As a father, a U.S. Army veteran and as the former Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Governor’s Crime Commission, he understands these issues.

Cal Cunningham shared:

“As an Army veteran who has been trained on firearms and a parent who drops his kids off at school praying they’ll come home safe, addressing gun violence and keeping our communities safe is deeply personal to me. I’m proud to have the support of Brady because they understand, like I do, that when we unite Americans of every age, community, and background, we can take common-sense steps to reduce gun violence.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
