Brady Endorses Theresa Greenfield for U.S. Senate: Iowa Needs A Common-sense Champion

Washington, D.C., January 8, 2020 – As the U.S. Senate refuses to vote on bipartisan, common-sense gun violence legislation already passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, Iowans have the opportunity to vote for a Senator who will stand up for them and their safety – Theresa Greenfield. Today, Brady endorsed Greenfield for U.S. Senate, welcoming her seasoned and grounded values at a time when Iowans and all Americans are looking for solutions, not rhetoric.

Brady President Kris Brown explained:

“Iowa deserves a Senator that fights for Iowans, not for the NRA. Theresa Greenfield grew up on a farm in a town of around 500; she understands common-sense solutions. It’s why Theresa supports gun violence prevention policies supported by a bipartisan majority of Americans. She understands that criminals and violent offenders should not be able to purchase guns, while making sure policies include and respect responsible gun owners. Iowans deserve a Senator like Theresa. We need to ensure that they get one next November.”

Theresa Greenfield supports solutions that are backed by a bipartisan majority of Americans like expanded, universal background checks and legislation that would clarify and expand prohibited purchasers based on evidence of risk.

In contrast, Senator Joni Ernst has an ‘A’ rating from the NRA, which called her “solidly pro-gun.” Senator Ernst received over $3 million from the NRA.

Greenfield shared:

“Growing up on a farm, I learned the importance of responsible gun ownership first hand -- which is why I am for common-sense gun safety solutions. Again and again in Washington, Senator Ernst and Mitch McConnell have disregarded the urgent need for gun violence prevention and blocked reforms at the expense of Iowans’ safety. In the Senate, I will partner with Brady and grassroots advocates to expand background checks, make sure our law enforcement officers have the resources they need, and bring people together to find common ground on smart safety measures that will help protect our kids and our communities.”

Brown concluded:

“We need Theresa Greenfield in the U.S. Senate. I look forward to calling her Senator this time next year.”

Given the urgent need for federal action to reform our nation’s gun laws and to reduce gun violence, Brady will continue to issue endorsements for the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Senate and state and local offices ahead of the 2020 elections.
