WASHINGTON, D.C., November 4, 2026 — Following the election of candidates across the country who have pledged to prioritize gun violence prevention and a new gun safety majority in control of both chambers of Congress, Brady, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention organization, is ready to work with lawmakers to advance proven solutions that protect public safety, prevent gun violence, and counter the Trump administration’s deadly “guns everywhere” agenda, which has put millions of lives at risk.

 “The election of so many candidates who have made evidence-based gun violence prevention strategies a priority is an opportunity to make meaningful progress toward a safer country. It’s not time to sit back. The work ahead is urgent. 

We’ve seen historic declines in homicide in major cities around the country because of proven policies and historic funding for life-saving programs, and now we can achieve even more. With a new Congress and newly elected lawmakers across the country, we must pass laws we know save lives, like universal Brady Background Checks and a federal assault weapons ban, while securing sustained investment in community violence intervention programs and other strategies that have helped lead to historic laws in firearm homicides.

We must also ensure Congress uses every tool at its disposal to challenge efforts that undermine public safety, ensure federal gun laws are properly enforced, and hold the gun industry accountable when its practices put communities at risk.
