President Trump Signs First Executive Order on Guns

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 7, 2025 – In the wake of President Trump’s first executive order regarding firearms, Brady, the nation’s oldest gun violence prevention group, urges objectivity and restraint.

Brady’s President, Kris Brown, released the following statement in response:

“An objective review of the actions taken by the Biden Administration on firearms will show that his historic policies – including cracking down on rogue gun traffickers and expanding Brady Background Checks – are both effective and constitutional. They must be continued if this President actually wants to achieve any of his campaign promises around reducing crime, cracking down on drug trafficking, and reducing the flow of trafficked weapons across the southern border.

“We know that the vast majority of Americans – including gun owners and Trump voters – support basic safety laws that crack down on gun crime and keep all communities safe. These policies are in no way inconsistent with the Second Amendment. They are bipartisan, common sense, and are already working to reduce gun violence in red and blue states alike.

“Guns are already the number one killer of American children and teens. Reversal of these policies will demonstrate only one thing: fealty to the decayed, dying last gasp “guns everywhere” approach thrust unto Americans by  the National Rifle Association.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
