As U.S. Enters Deadliest Week for Gun Violence Annually, Brady Responds to Mass Shooting in Chicago

Sources indicate that four people were killed and 14 have been injured in a mass shooting outside an album release party in River North neighborhood

Washington, D.C., July 3, 2025 — Today, law enforcement in Chicago confirmed a mass shooting in the River North neighborhood in Chicago, IL. At least four people were killed and 14 others injured. The week of the July 4 holiday is typically the deadliest of the year for gun violence, and this shooting comes as the Trump administration plans to drastically weaken the ability of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to trace illegal weapons and solve crime.

Brady, the nation’s leading gun violence prevention organization, released the following statement condemning this heinous act of violence and calling for urgent action.

Brady President Kris Brown said:

Our hearts go out to all the victims, survivors, families, and all of Chicago after this targeted, senseless mass shooting. It is an all-too-familiar pain for Americans to face gun violence in and outside schools, places of worship, grocery stores, and nightclubs, and last night turned from a celebration of music to horrific tragedy. As Americans prepare to celebrate the Fourth of July, we’re also entering the most dangerous week of gun violence annually, from unintentional shootings around celebratory gunfire to tragedies like last night’s deliberate attack. It’s on all of us, especially lawmakers in Washington and Springfield, to demand an end to this uniquely American public health crisis.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
