Brady Responds to School Shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, GA

While details are still emerging, sources indicate at least 2 people have died and 4 others have been injured in the mass shooting at Apalachee High School

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 4, 2024 — This morning, authorities confirmed an active shooter incident at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. At least two casualties and four injuries have been reported, and at least one suspect is in custody. According to new polling by Brady, as students are returning to classrooms, an overwhelming 77 percent of parents are concerned their child’s school could be the site of a mass shooting.

Brady, the nation’s leading gun violence prevention organization, released the following statement condemning this act of violence and calling for urgent action.

Kris Brown, president of Brady, said:

“Students across the country are returning to classrooms this week, and already we are witnessing yet another devastating school shooting. There is no world in which this is acceptable – no world in which our children should be forced to run and hide from shooters in school hallways, no world in which loved ones should have to wait (as parents in Winder are) to learn if their child will return home from school alive."

"
Our thoughts are with the students and families impacted. But we know that thoughts, prayers, and platitudes will never be enough. Gun violence is an all-too American crisis that demands action – and all of us deserve leaders who will finally put the safety of our children and communities above gun industry profits.”

"
Enough is enough."
