Ruth Borenstein

Ruth Borenstein has been a Brady supporter and donor since 2018. She had a successful career as an attorney and now spends much of her time volunteering with Brady. She is currently the Brady California Legislative & Policy Chair and serves as a co-lead of the Brady San Francisco chapter.

Following the Parkland shooting, Ruth sought ways to get more involved in the gun violence prevention movement in her own community. After discovering that a state-owned property called Cow Palace hosted gun shows multiple times a year, she decided to take action. She had an op-ed published in the San Francisco Chronicle, calling attention to the problem and voicing her frustrations that a state property was supporting the influx of guns entering her community. She also started attending the Cow Palace board meetings and sharing her thoughts, eventually teaming with Brady supporters to persuade the board to cease holding gun shows on the property.

While Ruth has seen the positive impact of her advocacy, she remains frustrated about the power and influence of the NRA and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) over politicians and the barrier this creates to meaningful reform. However, Ruth stays hopeful through her work with the younger generation that has stepped up in the gun violence prevention movement.

In her free time, Ruth finds joy in tending to her garden, which is currently full of foxglove, irises, poppies, various herbs, and a lovely lemon tree.

WE THANK RUTH FOR HER LONG-TIME SUPPORT OF BRADY AND OUR MISSION TO SAVE LIVES — OUR WORK IS MADE POSSIBLE BY DEDICATED ADVOCATES LIKE HER!
