Karen Davey-Winter
Karen’s involvement with Brady was sparked by a conversation about her passion for gun violence prevention. As a British national who has lived in the United States for 27 years, Karen was struck by the troubling extent of gun violence in this country. She was horrified and shocked to find that young kids have to learn active shooter drills at school and the inability of Congress to take action to protect Americans.
Like many of us, Karen is frustrated by the misattribution of blame after mass shootings– that everything but guns are held responsible.
Karen notes that other countries like England have mental health issues and violent video games, but not nearly the same amount of mass shootings. She is particularly concerned about the politicized nature of the debate, where sensible gun laws are misunderstood as attempts to take guns away entirely.
Karen works for Kaiser Permanente medical group as a Managerial Consultant supporting the Chief Communications officer in Southern California. Since joining Brady, Karen has found hope in the movement’s progress, especially in her home state of California, where stronger gun laws have led to fewer mass shootings. She is optimistic that other states will follow suit with Brady’s help.
In her personal life, Karen enjoys hiking, biking, and spending time with her son and friends. Her personal commitment to Brady highlights the impact that dedicated individuals like herself can have on building a safer future for all.
