Brady Applauds Delaware Governor for Signing Gun Dealer Licensing and Code of Conduct Act into Law

This Brady-backed legislation builds on a legacy in Delaware of holding the gun industry accountable

DOVER, DE, September 3, 2026 — Brady, the nation's oldest gun violence prevention organization, applauds Gov. Meyer for signing the Gun Dealer Licensing and Code of Conduct Act into law. This critical legislation requires gun dealers to maintain responsible business practices, including secure firearm storage, employee vetting, and recordkeeping. In cases of extreme or repeated negligence, it also allows the state to revoke a dealer’s license, helping stop the flow of illegal firearms and gun violence in Delaware and beyond

As a nurse and a mother who lost a child to gun violence, I know the true cost of this epidemic and what it takes to stop it. Seeing the Gun Dealer Licensing and Code of Conduct Act signed into law is a victory for Delawareans who have fought to keep our families and communities safe from tragedy. Ensuring that gun dealers maintain responsible business practices is a crucial step to keeping firearms from going into the hands of traffickers, prohibited purchasers, and those who show signs of harming themselves or others. I thank Sen. Sokola and Rep. Gorman for sponsoring this bill, the Brady activists who championed it, and Sen. Meyer for signing it into law.

Delaware has a history of passing legislation to prevent gun violence by holding the gun industry accountable for harm. In 2022, the state passed the Keshall “KeKe” Anderson Safe Firearm Sales Act, long advocated for by Brady, which made Delaware the first state in the nation to repeal a law that gives firearm dealers immunity from liability for injury caused by their actions. The passage of the Gun Dealer Licensing and Code of Conduct Act builds upon this legacy.
