While details continue to emerge and a shooter remains at large, reports indicate multiple people have been shot
WASHINGTON, D.C., December 13, 2025 — Today, Rhode Island authorities are reporting an active shooting incident in the area of Brown University with “multiple shooting victims.”Brady, the nation’s leading gun violence prevention organization, released the following statement.
Brady President Kris Brown said:
Our hearts are with the victims, survivors, their families, and the entire community of Brown University and the surrounding Providence area in this horrific time. As students prepare for finals and then head home to loved ones for the holidays, our all-too-American gun violence crisis has shattered their safety. Guns are the leading cause of death for youth in this nation. Only in America do we live in fear of being shot and killed in our schools, places of worship, and grocery stores.
“Now, as students, faculty, and staff hide and barricade themselves in immense fear, we once again call on lawmakers in Congress and around the country to take action against this uniquely American public health crisis. We cannot continue to allow politics and special interests to take priority over our lives and safety. As we continue to learn more, our thoughts are with the victims, survivors, and all their loved ones.

Brady: United Against Gun Violence is the nation's oldest gun organization working to free America from gun violence. We believe that changing laws alone won’t end our nation's gun violence crisis; we must also change hearts and minds. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to end this epidemic: change the laws, change the gun industry, and change the conversation about guns in America.
