Brady Campaign Launches Youth Engagement Initiative Following March for Our Lives

Organization promises to lift up a diversity of students engaged in gun violence prevention movement

Washington, D.C., March 28, 2018 - In the weeks since the mass shooting in Parkland, FL, youth advocates have proven that they are prepared to step forward in the effort to prevent gun violence in America. Today, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence announced a new initiative aimed at lifting up student voices through the midterms and beyond.

"It's impossible to listen to these young leaders and not be inspired," stated Kris Brown, co-president of the Brady Campaign. "We all heard their voices this past weekend at the March for Our Lives, and we want nothing more than to amplify their efforts in the weeks and months to come. It's time for our elected officials to get on board and listen to what these students have to say - otherwise, it's time for them to find a new job."

As part of the initiative, the Brady Campaign will provide youth leaders with a different engagement point each month from April through the November midterm elections, as well as the tools and resources they need. This will begin with encouraging students to attend town halls in their Congressional districts through the Town Hall for Our Lives effort on April 7, and supporting their efforts to address their elected officials on gun violence prevention. Future months will focus on topics including voter registration, starting clubs in their own schools, and hosting candidate forums.

"Whenever I'm asked what makes this moment so different, the answer is easy - it's the energy and determination of these young leaders," stated Brady co-president Avery Gardiner. "No matter what the NRA and the gun lobby might say, this grassroots activism is here to stay. For those who would stand in the way of these students - our thoughts and prayers are with you."

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
