A bipartisan bill to fix the deadly "Charleston loophole" has been introduced in the House of Representatives. It's time Congress pass H.R. 1446!
In 2015, a white supremacist walked into Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church — a historically Black church in Charleston, SC — and opened fire on a Bible study group. When the massacre was over, he had murdered nine Black worshippers. The killer was able to obtain a gun because of the “Charleston loophole.” This deadly loophole in our nation's background check system allows gun sales to be completed after three business days — even if a background check hasn't been completed. In 2016 and 2017 alone, the Charleston loophole allowed over 9,000 prohibited buyers to obtain firearms.
