Tell Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell

Fix the “Charleston Loophole" Now!

A bipartisan bill to fix the deadly "Charleston loophole" has languished in the Senate for 475 days. We cannot allow this lifesaving bill to continue gathering dust on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's desk!

Five years ago, a white supremacist walked into Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church — a historically Black church in Charleston, SC — and opened fire on a Bible study group. When the massacre was over, he had murdered nine Black worshippers. The killer was able to obtain a gun because of the “Charleston loophole.” This deadly loophole in our nation's background check system allows gun sales to be completed after three business days — even if a background check hasn't been completed. In 2016 and 2017 alone, the Charleston loophole allowed over 9,000 prohibited buyers to obtain firearms.
