Washington, D.C., February 15, 2022 - Today, Brady celebrates the news that Remington Arms Company has agreed to a settlement with the families and estates of nine victims of the 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. The settlement in this case underscores the vital importance of litigation against the gun industry to create accountability for manufacturers’ role in fueling gun violence. Brady assisted the lawyers for the Sandy Hook families from the beginning of the case.Brady President Kris Brown shared:
“The report that Remington has settled with the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting is an important victory in the fight to hold the firearms industry accountable for gun violence in America. These families can never receive full or true justice, because no settlement can bring back their children. Almost a full decade after this horrific shooting, this settlement builds on victories won by Brady and other attorneys that must stand as a signal to the gun industry to stop contributing to gun violence, or you will be held accountable. Victims of gun violence in this country will not stop in the fight to create a safer nation. We look forward to courts across the country taking note of this settlement and the precedents set in this case as victims continue to demand accountability and justice for the effects of gun violence.”

Despite the special protections that Congress and some states have unjustly provided to the gun industry, victims of gun violence can bring cases against the gun industry and win to create accountability and stop the violence that kills over 100 people every day in our country.”
