Washington, D.C., February 11, 2021 - Today, Brady marks the 21st anniversary of the dedication of the James Brady Briefing Room. This occasion is a clear reminder of the values and legacy of James Brady and for all Americans to take action, not sides, in the effort to prevent gun violence in our country.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Today’s anniversary is an opportunity to remember and rededicate ourselves to the values and mission of James Brady. Jim was a stalwart champion for common-sense public safety policies - policies that today are law, like the Brady Background Check System.

This anniversary comes at a turning point for our nation and our movement. We again have a proven gun violence prevention champion in the White House. President Biden worked alongside Jim Brady to pass common-sense laws while in the Senate. The Biden-Harris Administration was elected with the most comprehensive gun violence prevention platform in history. This administration comes in with a clear dedication to take a comprehensive, whole-of-government approach to prevent gun violence. The administration is joined by a gun violence prevention majority in both chambers of Congress.

On this anniversary, we have the best opportunity to pass comprehensive gun violence prevention policies in a generation. We must seize it.”

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki acknowledged this anniversary at the beginning of her briefing today, emphasizing that the administration continues to make combating gun violence a priority as it “may not be in the headlines today” but this uniquely American epidemic continues to “fracture communities” across the nation and “disproportionately affects Black and Brown individuals.” Brady looks forward to continuing to work with the Biden-Harris Administration in this effort.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
