San Francisco, October 6, 2022 — Gun violence prevention organization Brady and Coach Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, joined by presenting sponsor Cadence Design Systems and every major professional sports team in the Bay Area, are holding a special event in support of efforts to prevent gun violence.

Today at Chase Center’s Sky Bar in San Francisco, guests will hear from Coach Kerr, who lost his own father to gun violence and has been outspoken on the issue in recent years. Kerr received national attention for his remarks at a press conference where he expressed his outrage over the mass shooting in Uvalde.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

After the shooting in Uvalde, Coach Kerr asked the world, ‘When are we going to do something?’ We need our leaders to take action to prevent this public health epidemic — the time is now. Every day we wait, more than 100 lives are lost to gun violence, hundreds are wounded, and thousands impacted. We cannot wait another day and I’m honored to work with Coach Kerr and Bay area leaders to bring about the change we so desperately need.”

Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr shared:

“We’ve seen shooting after shooting in communities across the country — no one is immune. I wasn’t. Losing my dad changed my life and I don’t want anyone else to know that pain. We must do something to stop these tragedies. I’m tired of taking moments of silence while we let partisan politics get in the way of life-saving solutions. We need to put the American people first and I encourage others with a platform like mine to speak out because change is possible.”

A brief program will feature prominent voices in the gun violence prevention movement, including survivors and youth leaders, and provide insight into efforts underway to address the nation’s epidemic of gun violence.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
