Washington, D.C., November 6, 2018 - After winning her bid for re-election tonight in Florida’s 7th Congressional District, Rep. Stephanie Murphy released the following statement thanking the Brady Campaign for their support and calling for action on gun safety in the upcoming Congress:

“The people of Florida know better than almost anywhere else in the country how devastating the impact of gun violence can be. It was right here in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub where 49 people were shot and killed, and it was just a few hours away where 17 students and teachers were murdered in Parkland, FL.

In my first campaign and now in my re-election, I’ve run as an unapologetic advocate for commonsense gun safety reform. I’ve been proud to fight for gun safety in Congress, and I’ll be prouder to do it alongside the remarkable, newly-elected men and women who will be standing beside me in the years to come. My thanks go out to the Brady Campaign for their dedication to this important issue and to getting the vote out in our district so that we can continue our efforts to save lives. Let’s get to work!”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
