Oxford High School Shooter's Father, James Crumbley, Found Guilty on All Counts

James Crumbley Follows His Wife Jennifer to Prison for His Role in Providing His Teenage Son With a Firearm to Kill Four Students and Injure Seven Others at Oxford High School in Michigan.

Washington, D.C., March 14, 2024 – A Michigan jury has found James Crumbley guilty on all four counts of involuntary manslaughter after he illegally purchased a firearm for his teenage son, failed to safely store the weapon, did not report warning signs that his son planned to attack Oxford High School, and declined to take his son home on the morning of the mass shooting. His wife, Jennifer Crumbley, was convicted on four counts of involuntary manslaughter last month.

“James Crumbley may not have pulled the trigger that fateful day at Oxford High School, but he has blood on his hands. With an obviously illegal straw purchase of a firearm that he failed to safely secure, James Crumbley made it possible for his son to kill his classmates. He all but put the gun in his son’s backpack and failed to warn school officials about the risk of his son’s access to the firearm. This jury confirmed that James is another party who is responsible for this terrible tragedy.

“It is because of irresponsible firearm storage that 76% of school shooters under 18 obtain their guns from the home, contributing to tragedies of family fire. These parents can keep being held accountable in court, but when these cases are brought forward that means people are already dead. We don’t want to lose more Americans. We need to stop these tragedies BEFORE they happen and we want all parties to take responsibility to protect our children and communities.

“This conviction will not bring back the children who were senselessly slaughtered in their school nor will it fully heal the wounds that go deeper than flesh. Prevention, including responsible gun ownership, gives us peace.”
