Washington, D.C., March 30, 2021 – Brady welcomes Maisha Fields as the organization’s Vice President of Organizing. Fields brings extensive background in gun violence prevention advocacy, organizing, and public health to catalyze Brady’s mission and work.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Brady is thrilled to welcome a leader with a proven track record of successful advocacy and organizing. Maisha Fields is a proven and trusted voice for gun violence prevention, equity, and social justice. Brady is lucky to welcome her and look forward to her bringing her dedication, moral clarity, and expertise in organizing, advocacy and public health to improve our work and help us achieve our mission to end gun violence.”

Maisha Fields shared:

“As a survivor of gun violence it is an honor and privilege to speak truth to power to with this movement and how we will eliminate gun violence that plagues our community. It is the number one public health issue affecting our country, after COVID. I look forward to being a voice for those who have been buried, for mothers of the movement and for others who live in fear that they could be next.”

Fields joins Brady from U.S. Senator and Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper in his campaign for U.S. Senate and advising current Colorado Governor Jared Polis on the equitable distribution of the state’s coronavirus response resources. Fields brings a wealth of advocacy and public health experience, having served as a nurse practitioner and as the director of Children’s Corridor, a non-profit in Colorado that focuses on youth outcomes. In addition to this work, Fields is a long-time and staunch gun violence prevention advocate, joining the movement as a survivor following the murder of her brother, Javad Marshall Fields and his fiancé Vivian Wolfe in 2007. Fields and her family founded the Fields Foundation in their names, which she continues to organize and fundraise for after departing as the non-profit’s executive director.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
