Washington, D.C., November 6, 2018 - After defeating NRA-backed Congressman Erik Paulsen today in Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District, Dean Phillips released the following statement pledging to put gun safety first and foremost on his agenda upon taking his seat, and thanking the Brady Campaign for their support:

“Thoughts and tweets don’t save lives, courage and action save lives. All throughout this campaign, we’ve heard from voters that they want someone who will stand up for gun safety and against the gun lobby who want to keep the status quo. Tonight’s election is proof that the time has come for a Congress who will put common sense gun violence prevention measures at the top of the agenda, and I’m proud to be amongst the new members who will take the lead in doing so. My sincere thanks go out to the Brady Campaign for their support throughout this campaign, and I look forward to working with them in the years to come.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
