Washington, D.C., November 6, 2018 - This evening, in races seen as long-shots by many, Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger both won their respective elections in Virginia’s 2nd and 7th Congressional Districts. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence congratulated both Luria and Spanberger on their hard-fought victories.

Kris Brown, Virginia resident and co-president of the Brady Campaign, stated:

“Tonight, we’ve seen Jennifer Wexton’s amazing victory, and now two more strong pro-gun safety women join Virginia’s congressional delegation in Elaine Luria and Abigail Spanberger. Both of these candidates ran on a strong gun violence prevention platform and in defeating Congressmen who were both NRA A+ rated, they have shown that gun safety is a key issue for voters in this election cycle. We are delighted to support them and look forward to working with them to enact life saving laws.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
