Washington, D.C., June 8, 2022 - Today, Brady applauds the U.S. House of Representatives and its leaders for swiftly passing H.R. 7910, the “Protecting Our Kids Act,” a collection of common-sense gun violence prevention policies. The House’s action demonstrates the leadership’s attention to the will and needs of the American people, who have desperately demanded gun violence prevention reforms following a horrific string of mass shootings, including and especially the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Today’s vote was thrown into sharp relief following the heartbreaking testimony in the House Oversight Committee, where survivors and victims of gun violence underscored the urgent need to stop gun violence across the county.

Brady President Kris Brown shared:

“Today’s bipartisan vote is another historic statement to the American people that our representatives in the People’s House are listening and they continue to act. House leadership has never failed to prioritize gun violence prevention during the 117th Congress, and they have shown again that they will not stop and they will not delay when it comes to delivering life-saving solutions to the American people.

The Protecting Our Kids Act is a collection of common-sense policies that will save lives and demonstrate the ongoing bipartisan willingness to answer the calls of the American public. All eyes are now rightfully on the Senate, where we have yet to receive a vote on bipartisan gun violence prevention bills that the House passed over a year ago. Kimberly Rubio, whose daughter, Lexi, said during today’s hearing: "Somewhere out there, a mom is hearing our testimony and thinking to herself, 'I can’t even imagine their pain,' not knowing that our reality will one day be hers — unless we act now." Her words are a call to action. Today, the House has acted and it is time for the Senate to act, as well.”

About the “Protecting Our Kids Act,”

The “Protecting Our Kids Act” includes numerous gun violence prevention policies that would increase the age limit on the purchase of certain firearms, prevent gun trafficking, ban the sale of large capacity magazines, modernize the prohibition on untraceable firearms and bump stocks, and encourage the safe storage of firearms.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
