Washington, D.C., June 8, 2013 — The following statement was released today by Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence on the shooting at Santa Monica College.

“Right now our thoughts and prayers are with the community of Santa Monica and Santa Monica College. The heartbreaking sight of people fleeing from gunfire on our streets and in our schools is becoming an all too familiar scene. The American public has made it clear that we deserve better than this. While policies that present a real opportunity to save lives sit on desks in Congress, dozens of Americans continue to die every day as a result of gun violence. The American people are making their voices heard every day, calling for action. As long as our leaders in Congress ignore the will of the people and do not listen to those voices, we will hold them accountable.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
