Washington D.C., July 25, 2016 — Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement after two people were killed and 14 others were wounded outside an all-ages club in Fort Myers, Florida:

“Early this morning, at least 2 people were killed and 14 more were wounded after a mass shooting outside an all-ages club in Ft. Myers, Florida. Our hearts are with the families of those killed, as well as all those injured by this appalling crime. Although the motive for this shooting is still unknown, we do know that the victims, who were as young as 12, will need our love and support as they heal.

“Once again, America is seeing how guns in the hands of dangerous people rip communities and families apart. We cannot become numb to either these shocking mass shootings or the terror of gun violence that takes 90 lives every day in this country. We cannot allow this violence to become the new normal. We owe it to the next generation, many of whom were gravely injured during this morning’s shooting, to end the epidemic of gun violence in this country.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
