Washington D.C., November 3, 2017 — Today, Representatives Mike Thompson (D-CA) and Peter King (R-NY) introduced the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2017, which will expand Brady background checks to cover all commercial firearm sales including those sold at gun shows, over the Internet at sites like ArmsList.com and in classified ads.

Brady Co-President Kris Brown officially threw Brady's support behind the new version of the bill saying, "The Brady Campaign and its chapters played a critical role in helping craft this bill, urge Members of Congress to sign on as cosponsors and support passage. This bill will close a loophole in the law that allows one in five guns to be sold without a background check. It represents an important step in the right direction as we work toward stemming the epidemic of gun violence in America."

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
