Allison Shaw gun violence survivor

Gun violence exacts an enormous toll on Americans, claiming tens of thousands of lives each year. Firearms are involved in 100 deaths a day, and 100,000 Americans are shot and injured each year, often with life-altering consequences.

To discuss the trauma of suffering and living with a gunshot wound and the activism that can spring from such an injury, host JJ is joined once again by Christian Heyne, Vice President of Policy at Brady, and Allison Shaw. Like Christian, Allison is a survivor of gun violence. In 2004, she was shot in a robbery while working at a restaurant. Today, Allison works as an activist, producer, and owner and CEO of Manic Monkee, a Los Angeles brand development and consulting firm.

We talk about the health care costs of gun violence and what it's like for Allison to deal with 16 years of surgeries resulting from her gunshot injury.
