Rep. Val Demings spent 27 years as a law enforcement officer. She knows not only what’s required to safely own and use a gun, but also the devastating consequences when guns are given to those who cannot safely operate them or who should never have a weapon in the first place. Since arriving in Congress in 2017, Rep. Demings has consistently championed gun violence prevention policies. As a member of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Demings helped to shepard through the bipartisan gun safety bills H.R.8 and H.R.1112, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives in February. These measures would expand and enhance background checks, but have yet to receive a vote in the Senate after over 275 days on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s desk.
