After a weekend that saw our nation suffer two more mass shootings with at least 29 murdered and over 40 wounded, we are calling on Congress to cancel its August recess, return to Washington, and take action to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
Keeping dangerous firearms like assault weapons and high-capacity magazines out of the hands of people looking to cause harm, no matter what it takes, must be a priority for our elected officials. A review of mass shootings between 2009 and 2015 shows that in shootings where assault weapons or high-capacity magazines are used, 155 percent more people are shot and 47 percent more die compared to those without them.
This sort of violence contributes to the sense that we are not safe anywhere. Join us in demanding a ban on these weapons on war and destruction.
