Shooting is Third High-Profile Mass Shooting in 10 Days.

Washington, D.C., November 23, 2022 – On the eve of Thanksgiving, at least six people are dead and multiple others injured in a mass shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Va. It is the 606th mass shooting in America so far this year.

The shooting comes just three days after another mass shooting killed five people and injured 18 others at a Club Q, an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Chesapeake tragedy continues a long line of grocery store mass shooting events, including in Buffalo, N.Y. earlier this year, Boulder, Colo. in March 2021, and El Paso, Texas in 2019.

Kris Brown, president of Brady, said:

“As many Americans prepare for the holiday with loved ones, multiple family members are grieving the loss of relatives and friends due to yet another senseless act of violence.
“This is the third high-profile mass shooting in the past 10 days. People are tired of living in a country where they have to fear being shot while shopping for Thanksgiving dinner or while dancing in a nightclub, and our lawmakers must act. It is not too late for the Senate to pass a federal assault weapons ban and universal background checks this session. Too many lives depend on it, and their inaction is killing us.
“Our deepest sympathies are with all the families and individuals affected by this tragedy.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
