Washington, D.C., February 13, 2023 - Brady today sent a comprehensive, actionable plan to the 118th Congress to address the epidemic of gun violence in the U.S. This policy and messaging guide, called a “Legislative Blueprint for a Safer America,” serves as a playbook for strengthening gun safety laws, reducing gun violence, and creating a stronger democracy for all Americans.
The blueprint identifies three main areas of focus:
Expanding and protecting democratic norms;
Expanding the Brady Background Check system; and
Addressing gun violence in all its forms.
The release of the Brady Blueprint comes at a critical time, as the country faces an exacerbating threat of gun violence, and an upending of democratic norms. This blueprint will serve as a guide for policymakers and the public alike as they work together to protect our democracy and save lives from the epidemic of gun violence.
Brady President Kris Brown stated:
"With over 300 people shot everyday, gun violence continues to erode the fabric of the American dream and tear families apart. However, through legislative action and direct engagement with the American people, we have the opportunity to change the trajectory of gun violence in the U.S. and lay the foundations for lasting, positive change.
“We need an end to the gun violence epidemic plaguing our communities, from tragic mass shooting attacks in schools, grocery stores, and bars/nightclubs, to the heartbreaking toll of everyday gun-related community violence, domestic violence, and suicide. We need a tailored approach to target each root cause of these preventable tragedies, and we urge policymakers to address this with the gravity of the public health crisis it is."

The Supreme Court is set to rule on the regulation of ghost guns by this summer. The decision will be the difference between stopping the proliferation of ghost guns or letting these dangerous assemble-at-home firearms be unserialized and untraceable. Brady is counting on activists like you to speak out and help protect these regulations. Will you respond to our urgent poll today?
