JONATHAN LOWY, KYLEANNE HUNTER RECOGNIZED BY PEERS FOR EFFORTS TO PREVENT GUN VIOLENCE

Washington, D.C., June 13, 2019 - As the gun violence prevention movement continues to gain momentum in the effort to keep Americans safe, several leaders at one of the nation’s first and foremost gun safety organizations are being honored for their work. Brady congratulated organizational Vice Presidents Jonathan Lowy and Kyleanne Hunter for being recognized by their peers for their ongoing efforts and leadership in the fight to prevent gun violence.

Brady president Kris Brown stated,

“Every day, I’m reminded how lucky I am to work with some of the best and brightest people in the country here at Brady, and to see them honored by their peers is both personally and professionally gratifying. Jonathan Lowy is one of the sharpest legal minds in the country, and Kyleanne Hunter reminds me every day what sacrifice and service to your country truly looks like. I’m proud to call them my peers and my friends, and the gun violence prevention movement is lucky to have them on our side.”

Brady VP of Litigation Jonathan Lowy was named to the Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers list for the eighth straight year in 2019, recognizing his work in “the most elite guide in the legal profession.” Lowy is one of only 12 public interest lawyers on the list, and the only gun violence prevention lawyer included. Lowy and Brady attorneys Erin Davis and Joshua Scharff were also named as finalists for Public Justice's Trial Lawyers of the Year for their work on behalf of Kirsten Englund’s family in a case that created new legal precedent that gun dealers can be held liable for the death of victims when they illegally sell guns over the Internet. The Trial Lawyer of the Year Award is annually given to the attorney(s) who made the greatest contribution to the public interest within the past year by trying or settling a precedent-setting, socially significant case; this is the second time Brady’s legal team has been a finalist for the award. For more than two decades, Lowy has been a leading legal voice in the gun violence prevention movement, providing pro bono legal representation to victims of gun violence. He has litigated gun-related cases in over 30 states, successfully arguing multiple precedent-setting cases establishing gun industry liability and Second Amendment law, obtaining several multi-million dollar settlements, and reforming gun industry practices.

Brady VP of Programs Kyleanne Hunter was honored this spring as one of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) “Trailblazers,” as well as being named to the HillVets Top 100 Influencers of 2018. A U.S. Marine Corps combat veteran who served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hunter was honored by both organizations for her work combining her military experience with her efforts to prevent gun violence. The VA’s “Trailblazers: Women Breaking Barriers” campaign featured 15 women veterans, celebrating their military service and unique experiences that led to their continued roles as leaders and advocates today. HillVets 100 highlights the most influential and impactful veterans, servicemembers, and supporters from 2018. Hunter was named to the “Top Influencers” list, identified as those making the most positive changes and having the greatest impact in the veteran political space through their service.

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
