Washington, D.C., August 1, 2018 – Despite a federal court ordering blueprints for 3D-printed guns to be removed from the Internet, a group of extremist activists have taken it upon themselves to post the instructions for anyone - no matter how dangerous - to download for free. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sharply criticized the group for putting innocent lives in danger for their own self-serving goals.

“This reckless and dangerous behavior isn’t some sort of constitutional stand - it’s a publicity stunt that will lead to someone being hurt or killed,” stated Kris Brown, co-president of the Brady Campaign. “Our founding fathers didn’t enshrine the right to arm terrorists with undetectable assault weapons. We will fight any effort to arm terrorists and felons, and we will hold them accountable for the results.”

Yesterday, with only hours remaining before a federal settlement between the State Department and crypto-anarchist Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed took effect, U.S. District Judge Robert Lasnik issued a temporary restraining order following a lawsuit by a multistate coalition of state Attorneys General. Despite the court order, a number of other radical organizations chose to post the blueprints, despite the clear dangers involved.

“If you are actively working to post these dangerous blueprints online, you are actively putting people’s lives in danger,” added Brady co-president Avery Gardiner. “This is an issue of public safety and of national security. And if the Trump administration hadn’t caved and settled a lawsuit they’d been winning every step of the way, we wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with. We knew this was going to be a long battle, and we’re prepared to fight with everything we have.”

Brady has one powerful mission — to unite all Americans against gun violence. We work across Congress, the courts, and our communities with over 90 grassroots chapters, bringing together young and old, red and blue, and every shade of color to find common ground in common sense. In the spirit of our namesakes Jim and Sarah Brady, we have fought for over 45 years to take action, not sides, and we will not stop until this epidemic ends. It’s in our hands.
